Party takes EU vote “Remain” message out to county voters

Local Labour Party members took the party’s positive vote “Remain” message out to voters at Haddington Farmers’ Market on Saturday, where they were met with a warm response.

The campaigners were joined by Iain Gray MSP, who is leading the party’s local Labour In campaigning for the EU vote on 23rd June. A large number of local people stopped at the stall to take further information or declare their support for a remain vote in the referendum.

Speaking afterwards, Iain Gray MSP said:

“Voters across Scotland and the rest of the UK face a huge choice on 23rd June. My view, and that of the Labour Party, is that we are better off as members of the EU. Some 250,000 jobs in Scotland, including tens of thousands in the Lothians, are linked to our exports to the EU, providing growth and investment for the local economy.

“EU membership has also been good for working people and their families. The EU helps us secure vital rights such as paid holidays and maternity and paternity leave that so many people across Scotland benefit from. It has also been good for consumers, helping to reduce the costs of essential goods and services, as well as things like holidays and cars.

“In my view, for all of these reasons, and many more, we should vote to remain on 23rd June and stay better off in Europe.”
