Local Labour parliamentarians Iain Gray MSP and Fiona O’Donnell MP are calling for greater support for Scotland’s carers.

Mr Gray and Ms O’Donnell are challenging the SNP to back Scottish Labour’s Carers’ pledge and ensure that their Carers Bill enshrines Carers’ Rights in Scotland.

Iain Gray MSP said:

“International Carers’ Rights Day is an opportunity to connect with carers and reaffirm our commitment to them. Too often they are forgotten and taken for granted when they deserve our support and appreciation.

“Scottish Labour has always been committed to upholding carers’ rights and ensuring that the best possible support is available to them.  I am delighted to support my colleague Rhoda Grant’s Parliamentary motion and give my backing to Scottish Labour’s Carers’ pledge. Now the SNP must do the same and show their commitment to improving carers’ rights in Scotland.”

Fiona O’Donnell MP said:

“The Carers’ Labour Network provides a platform for carers across the country to share their experiences and support one another. It is so important that we listen to carers when we are planning and delivering support services. Listening to local carers’ experiences helps us to hold the UK and Scottish Governments accountable for delivering the change needed to support Scotland’s Carers.

“I hope carers in East Lothian who share our values will join the network and make sure the rights of carers are firmly on the political agenda and their voices heard.”
