Local Labour campaigners took the party’s message of hope out on to the streets in Prestonpans and Tranent last weekend as part of Scottish Labour’s national campaign day.

Led by Iain Gray MSP and Martin Whitfield MP, campaigners spoke to local people about the party’s positive message of hope and gave out leaflets detailing some of its plans for delivering a fairer future for Scotland and the UK.

Speaking after the campaigning, Iain Gray MSP said:

“East Lothian Labour Party has achieved some outstanding successes over the last 18 months. First the electorate put their faith in me to continue representing the county at Holyrood. Then in May this year we retained control of the council, a success which was then followed by Martin’s victory at the general election.

“However, we know there is a long way to go to convince people that they can trust us to govern again at Holyrood and Westminster. We will continue to take our positive message of hope out to the public in the months and years ahead to convince them that only Labour can deliver the change we need.”

Martin Whitfield MP added:

“Following the progress made in June’s general election, Labour remains on an election footing ready to ditch this failing Tory government whenever the opportunity arises. Here in East Lothian and across Scotland we are telling people about our alternative to Tory and SNP cuts and austerity.

“It was great to be joined by new members who have been enthused by our commitment to change. East Lothian Labour will keep campaigning for Labour governments at all levels to stop the cuts and deliver the investment needed in our economy and public services.”
