Commenting on local SNP MP George Kerevan’s recent interview on the BBC’s Today programme, Councillor Jim Goodfellow, Chair of East Lothian Labour Party, said:

“During the UK election campaign George Kerevan styled himself as the anti-austerity candidate. However, in his Today programme interview Mr Kerevan failed 10 times to explain how the SNP plan to protect Scotland from Tory cuts. Despite his party’s anti-austerity rhetoric, he offered no positive ideas or solutions, simply “moaning” about future austerity cuts. His performance sums up the con trick the SNP are trying to play on the Scottish people.

“Scottish politics is changing and we will have the powers to make different choices in Scotland. It’s not good enough anymore to simply blame someone else when we have the opportunity to do something about it. Rather than the empty posturing and grandstanding we see all the time from local SNP politicians, local people need positive action.

“Scottish Labour will do things differently, and use Scotland’s new powers to make different decisions from the Tories’ austerity and the SNP’s complacency.”
