Scottish Labour has revealed the cost of SNP austerity to individual people in East Lothian and across Scotland.

Analysis commissioned by the Scottish Labour party shows that SNP cuts to council budgets since 2013-14 have cost residents in East Lothian £129 a head.

Scottish Labour said the figures, provided by the Scottish Parliament Information Centre (SPICe), showed the price of SNP austerity for individuals across Scotland. Across all 32 local authorities in Scotland, spending has been cut by an average of £137 per head over the same period.

Scottish Labour has persistently called on the SNP to use the powers of the Scottish Parliament to end austerity and invest in lifeline local services, such as schools, social care and housing.

Local Labour MSP Iain Gray said:

“These figures show the price of SNP austerity for individuals here in East Lothian and across Scotland. Rather than protect local services the Scottish Government has chosen to pass on Tory cuts to local councils.

“The SNP has slashed funding for lifeline services in recent years -; and that translates as £129 a head less since 2013-14 for people here in East Lothian. That is simply shocking and underlines how SNP cuts are forcing difficult spending decisions on councils like East Lothian.

“Labour would use the powers of the Scottish Parliament to end austerity and invest in our vital local services.”
