Labour party members and supporters from across East Lothian have gathered in Prestonpans to give their support to Martin Whitfield at his re-election campaign rally.

The rally, which took place at the town’s Labour Club, saw Mr Whitfield joined by local MSP Iain Gray and Labour peer George Foulkes, who spoke about his  admiration for Martin’s work standing up for East Lothian in Parliament.

Mr Whitfield spoke about his work as the county’s MP since 2017 and pledged to continue to put East Lothian first and be a champion for local interests.

He also promised to keep working with Mr Gray and local Labour councillors as part of a strong team serving local communities across the county.

Speaking after the event Martin Whitfield said:

“Representing East Lothian, the community where I live with my family, has been a great honour and privilege, and I am proud to be seeking re-election on my record over the last couple of years.

“My message at this election is clear – I will always put East Lothian first and be a champion for its interests in Parliament and here in the constituency.

“East Lothian has suffered at the hands of both the Tories and the SNP and only Labour stands up for the county.

“Unlike my main opponents, I am also in tune with the majority of local people on the big issues facing us. I want us to remain in the UK and the EU and will always campaign to keep East Lothian in both.

“I will be taking that message out to communities across East Lothian over the next few weeks and asking local people to trust me to continue as our MP on 12 December.”
