Following press reports regarding Kenny Macaskill MP’s relocation to his Speyside home during lockdown and two subsequent trips to the constituency, East Lothian Labour Party is calling for the MP to clarify his actions for constituents and whether he has breached lockdown rules.

An East Lothian CLP Spokesperson said:

“The revelations that have emerged about Mr Macaskill’s behaviour during lockdown will come as a shock to the people of East Lothian. After relocating to Speyside he now has questions to answer about his two journeys to East Lothian while the current travel restrictions are in place.

“Mr Macaskill rightly called for action against Dominic Cummings when his lockdown rules breach emerged. It is only right that he should face the same scrutiny of his own actions. Many East Lothian residents will understandably feel that he has at best stretched the rules on travel, which he has been imploring others to follow, and that his actions should now be investigated.

“This situation also shows that instead of standing up for East Lothian, he is using the County as a convenient platform for his political career and to stand up for Alex Salmond’s side in the SNP’s raging civil war. Why else would he treat his constituency as his second home?”
