Scottish Labour’s candidate for the Lothian East Constituency, Douglas Alexander, has said his campaign to become the County’s new MP is off to “a flying start”.
Speaking at the end of the first full week of the campaign, Alexander said:
“We’ve been out and about across the County every day of this first week of the General Election campaign listening to voters and hearing their concerns.
“In the first week we’ve had teams of local Labour supporters out in North Berwick, Macmerry, Tranent, Whitecraig, Wallyford, East Saltoun, Gifford, Pencaitland, Aberlady, Gullane, Dunbar, Prestonpans and Haddington.
“What we keep hearing across all these communities is that people feel it’s time for change and that people are fed up with both the Conservative and SNP led governments in a country where everything seems more expensive and nothing seems to work.
“With dozens of activists out and about we’ve welcomed U.K. Labour’s Shadow Cabinet member Bridget Phillipson and Scottish Labour’s Shadow Cabinet member Pam Duncan-Glancy who both joined one of our door knocking sessions in Pencaitland.
“This week I also attended the launch by Anas Sarwar and Keir Starmer of Scottish Labour’s “First Steps” including providing economic stability; cutting NHS waiting lists and establishing GB Energy – a publicly-owned energy company based here in Scotland. That’s the kind of change Scotland needs.”
