Prestonpans Labour Party Club is the venue for an evening of top quality comedy entertainment this summer, as ‘Stand up for Labour’ comes to East Lothian for the first time.

Veteran Glasgwegian comedian Arnold Brown, dubbed the ‘Godfather of Alternative Comedy’, will headline the comedy evening which is taking place on Friday 23rd August from 7:30pm. Fellow comics Stephen Carlin and Manos Kanellos are also on the bill for the night, which is being sponsored by the Community union.

The event has been organised by East Lothian Labour Party in conjunction with ‘Stand up for Labour’, which organises comedy fundraising nights for Labour supporters across the UK. Stand up for Labour events combine the best in comedy with inspiring speeches from leading party figures and trade unionists, and are an opportunity for local activists to rally together and raise funds in the process.

Fiona O’Donnell MP said:

“I’m delighted that the East Lothian Labour Party is hosting this comedy evening with Stand up for Labour. It has organised highly successful events across the UK, entertaining thousands of Labour supporters and raising important funds in the process, and it is exciting that we will now be part of that success.

“While local supporters will be pleased to hear that I won’t be telling the jokes, it will also be an opportunity to hear a few words from me and Iain Gray about the United with Labour campaign and why we are better remaining part of a strong United Kingdom. I hope people will join us on the 23rd August at what will undoubtedly be a hugely entertaining and enjoyable evening.”

Prestonpans Labour Party Club Chair Harry Cairney added:

“We are all very excited about our Stand up for Labour night in Prestonpans. Arnold Brown is one of Scotland’s best loved comedians and it is a real coup to have secured him as the headline act for this event. It is all set to be a really memorable evening’s entertainment and I urge local Labour supporters to snap up a ticket before it sells out.”

Tickets for the comedy evening are priced at £10 (£7 concessions) and can be bought online at www.wegottickets.com/letslaugh or by phoning 07786 062638.
