Scottish Labour’s referendum campaign bus, dubbed the ‘Indyrefexpress’, has visited East Lothian to help spread the party’s positive message for a Labour No vote in next month’s independence referendum.

The campaign bus was welcomed to the county by local party supporters who met it at Prestonpans Labour Party Club. Scottish Labour Deputy Leader Anas Sarwar MP was leading the campaigners on the bus and joined Iain Gray MSP, Fiona O’Donnell MP, local Labour councillors and other activists to campaign in various local communities.

After speaking to voters in several streets in Prestonpans, the bus travelled to Tranent where supporters rallied on the High Street. It then moved on to Macmerry where the team spoke to more local people about why Labour is backing a No vote on 18 September.

Speaking after the bus had left the county, Iain Gray MSP said:

“The Indyrefexpress has become a real talking point in the referendum campaign, taking Labour’s positive case for a No vote to communities throughout Scotland. So it was a pleasure to welcome Anas and his team to East Lothian for the first time and join them in some local campaigning.

“Wherever it goes the bus creates a buzz and it was no different this time as we took it through communities across the county. Speaking to local people about how they intend to vote, it was clear that the majority of Labour supporters had already made up their minds and will be saying ‘No Thanks’ to separation when the time comes.

“However, we are continuing to keep our campaign activity at a high tempo and will be reaching out to as many local people as possible before 18 September. I urge any Labour supporters who want to play their part in securing a strong No vote to come forward and help us in these crucial final weeks of the campaign.”
