East Lothian Labour Group Leader Councillor Willie Innes has welcomed the announcement that bus services in the Dunbar and North Berwick corridors are to be taken over by East Coast Buses Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Lothian Buses Ltd.

Cllr Innes, who was closely involved in discussions with Lothian Buses about the future of the services, said:

“When we were elected in 2012 bus services in the west of the county were in chaos. At that time we worked very hard to ensure the services local people relied on were secured and, in many cases, improved.

“Following meetings with Lothian Buses, the Labour-led administration has done the same again in response to this crisis and I’m very pleased with the outcome. It will result in further improvements in services for bus users, as well as saving the depots and local jobs.

“Labour in East Lothian will always make delivering better buses for our communities a priority.”
