With Christmas looming, members of the Labour Group on East Lothian Council have made another donation to East Lothian Foodbank to support its work relieving food poverty.

All of the county’s Labour councillors have been saving throughout the year. They chose to donate £600 to the foodbank, following previous donations to the local charity. The group has now donated £1400 to the foodbank over the last three years.

Labour Group Treasurer Cllr Jim Gillies said:

“All of the Group put aside a little money each month and we felt that, as a local charity doing important work helping vulnerable people across the whole county, East Lothian Foodbank was a good cause to support again this year.

“We know that Christmas can be a particularly difficult time for those experiencing food poverty and hope this donation will help the Foodbank to cope with the additional pressures it faces at this time of year.”

Peter Dicker, Foodbank Manager, said:

“The support we have received from the Labour group on East Lothian Council has been absolutely fantastic over the years and the donation will go toward the overheads we have at the foodbank.

“We could not continue without the great support we get from groups in East Lothian, it is East Lothian people helping other East Lothian folk in a food crisis situation.”
